Jose Mourinho’s tumultuous reign at AS Roma has come to an end, with the club announcing his sacking after a disappointing run in Serie A. The 59-year-old Portuguese manager, nicknamed the “Special One,” arrived in Rome in 2021 with much fanfare, promising to bring silverware and restore the club’s glory days.

However, his tenure has been a mixed bag. While he did lead Roma to the Europa Conference League title in his first season, the Giallorossi have struggled to build on that success domestically. Languishing in ninth place in Serie A after 19 games, the club hierarchy decided a change was needed to revive their campaign.

Mourinho’s combative style and public criticism of his players were also cited as factors in his dismissal. His relationship with the club’s ownership, the Friedkin Group, is also said to have soured in recent months.

The search for Mourinho’s replacement is already underway, with several experienced managers linked to the hot seat. Daniele De Rossi, Paulo Fonseca, Roberto De Zerbi, and Massimiliano Allegri are among the names mentioned as potential candidates.

Roma’s decision to sack Mourinho marks a significant shift in their direction. The club’s ambition remains high, but they are now looking for a coach who can build a more sustainable and long-term project.
