President Tinubu suspends Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation minister, Betta Edu

President Bola Tinubu has today suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, with immediate effect over a wrong disbursement allegation.  The 37 year old minister is the first minister to be suspended in President Tinubu’s 48-man cabinet.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, stating that the president had also ordered the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, “to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions” involving the ministry and “one or more agencies thereunder”.

Shortly after, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the invitation of Betta Edu to its Abuja headquarters regarding the alleged N585m scandal as ordered by President Tinubu.

Furthermore, the suspended minister was also barred from seeing the president shortly after he suspension was announced.
