Gov Bago Sets the Record Straight: No Alcohol Ban in Niger State!

Boom RadioNG | December 28, 2023

Rumors swirling about an alcohol ban in parts of Niger State have been officially quashed by Governor Umar Bago. In a statement released Thursday, the Governor firmly denied any such directive, calling it “false and misleading.”

The initial report, claiming a ban on alcohol sales and consumption in Suleja and relocation of establishments in Minna, sparked confusion and concern. However, Gov Bago swiftly clarified that the purported directive originated from “imposters” and has no basis in reality.

“Neither myself nor any authorized official issued such a directive,” the Governor stated. He further emphasized that the Niger State Liquor and Licensing Board, responsible for regulating alcohol sales, has yet to be formally established. Therefore, any purported pronouncements from the board are invalid.

To combat the spread of misinformation, Governor Bago has ordered security agencies to apprehend the individual responsible for the fake directive, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim. He has also urged citizens to rely on official channels for accurate information and avoid being misled by unauthorized sources.

This incident highlights the importance of fact-checking and verifying information before sharing it online. Niger State residents are encouraged to stay informed through official government channels and be wary of sensational claims circulating on social media.
