Davido Sued for N2.3bn Over Alleged Breach of Contract for Delta Concert

The organizers of the Warri Again Concert, Brownhill Investments Company Limited, have filed a lawsuit of N2.3bn against Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) Limited before a high court in Effurun, Delta.

The lawsuit alleges that Davido breached his contract to perform at the concert, which took place on October 6, 2023. The organizers claim that they paid Davido $94,600 to perform at the concert and also booked a chartered plane for him at a cost of $18,000.

However, Davido failed to show up for the concert, which caused significant financial losses to the organizers. The organizers claim that they had already expended humongous resources on print and social media adverts and promotions for the event. They also had to pay for the private jet and other expenses related to Davido’s performance.

In addition to the N2.3bn in damages, the organizers are also seeking a four-day public apology from Davido in two national daily newspapers and on his social media accounts.

The lawsuit is a significant development in the Nigerian music industry. It is the first time that a major artist has been sued for breaching a contract to perform at a concert. The outcome of the lawsuit could have a major impact on the way that contracts are negotiated and enforced in the Nigerian music industry.
