In a surprise move, eight members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have impeached the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and his deputy, Dumle Maol. The lawmakers sat in one of the buildings at the Government House in Port Harcourt and elected a new speaker, Hon. Edison Ehie. They also announced the suspension of the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Samuel Chibuzor Amadi, and directed the governor to appoint an Acting Chief Judge for the state.

It is still unclear why Amaewhule and Maol were impeached, but the move has thrown the Rivers State government into chaos. The impeachment has been met with mixed reactions from the public, with some people supporting it and others condemning it.

The impeachment of Amaewhule is a significant development in the politics of Rivers State. It remains to be seen what impact it will have on the state government and the people of Rivers State.
