Boom Radio NG Introduces Song of the Week: Celebrating Great Music Across Genres and Generations

Boom RadioNG | November 5, 2026

One presenter. One song. One personal recommendation. Great music without borders.

Boom Radio NG is introducing Song of the Week, a new music feature designed to celebrate outstanding songs, encourage music discovery and give listeners a more personal connection with the station’s presenters and the music they play.

The concept is simple: each participating presenter selects a song from an assigned musical genre, records a personal introduction explaining why the song is their choice, and invites listeners to enjoy the featured record.

Each selection begins with an approximately one-minute introduction from the presenter, identifying the song and artist and sharing the personal connection or musical qualities that make it special. The selected song follows immediately afterwards.

Celebrating Music Without Borders

Song of the Week is built around one simple belief: great music has no geographical boundaries, and the best songs never go out of style.

The feature is not restricted to Nigerian music, new releases or any particular musical era. Presenters can select records from anywhere in the world, whether they were released recently or decades ago.

From contemporary Afrobeats to classic American Soul, international Hip-Hop, alternative R&B, African Gospel and timeless Old School favourites, the focus is on celebrating music that deserves to be heard.

Meet the Presenters and Their Musical Selections

Six musical strands will form the foundation of Song of the Week:

  • Soliat Awobajo – Afrobeats: Celebrating Afrobeats from Nigeria, Africa and the international music scene.
  • Chris Ogbolu – Rap/Hip-Hop: Exploring Hip-Hop and Rap across generations, styles and international music cultures.
  • Sola Rogers – R&B/Soul: Showcasing beautiful R&B and Soul selections, from contemporary sounds to timeless classics.
  • Fola Ajibola – Alte/Alternative R&B: Highlighting alternative sounds, creative expressions and distinctive musical discoveries.
  • Oladolupo – Gospel: Celebrating Gospel music, from contemporary praise and worship to inspirational classics.
  • Sola Rogers – Throwback/Old School: Taking listeners on a nostalgic journey through memorable records and timeless musical classics.

Each presenter brings an individual musical perspective, ensuring that the feature reflects different tastes, experiences and generations.

More Than Just a Song

What makes Song of the Week different is the personal recommendation behind every selection.

Rather than simply announcing a song and playing it, the presenter shares why that particular record matters to them. It could be the lyrics, production, melody, message, memories or simply the feeling the music creates.

The aim is to introduce listeners to songs they may not have discovered, encourage them to revisit familiar favourites and create conversations around the music they love.

Selections will also be scheduled according to their mood and suitability for Boom Radio NG’s programming. Throwback selections, for example, will complement the station’s Throwback Thursday programming and Sunday evening Old School music block.

Join the Conversation

Song of the Week will also have a strong digital presence, with dedicated graphics and social media posts celebrating each presenter, artist and selected song.

Listeners will be encouraged to share their opinions, discuss the featured records and recommend songs they believe deserve the spotlight.

Whether you’re discovering a new favourite or reconnecting with a classic, there’s always room for another great song.

Follow Boom Radio NG across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and Threads to join the conversation and keep up with the weekly selections.
