Tinubu 2027: Presidency Vows to Defeat Atiku and Peter Obi as Fubara Backs President
The 2027 presidential race is already taking shape as President Bola Tinubu’s camp steps up its political campaign, with the Presidency vowing to defeat opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, while Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has publicly endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, made the political declaration on Sunday, a day after the President formally launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna.
Dada said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was confident of defeating Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), when Nigerians vote in January.

Presidency targets Atiku and Peter Obi
In a post on X, Dada said the two opposition figures would be politically defeated at the polls.
“We will retire Atiku and his lying brother Peter politically in January once and for all,” he wrote.
The statement is a political claim from a member of the Presidency and does not represent an election result or an independent assessment of the candidates’ chances.
Tinubu is seeking another term in office after formally launching his re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24.
The President will contest the election with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Atiku and Obi prepare for 2027 contest
Atiku is contesting the presidency under the ADC, with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate.
Obi, who is running under the NDC, has former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
The contest also includes other presidential candidates, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who is paired with Musa Lawal Daura.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is listed as Sandy Onor, with Umaru Babangida as his running mate.
Former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke is also contesting under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), alongside Kabiru Rabiu.
The eventual contest is expected to bring together candidates from several political parties seeking to challenge the APC’s bid to retain the presidency.

Governor of Rivers state Sir Siminalayi Fubara
Fubara backs Tinubu’s re-election
In a separate development with implications for the political landscape in the oil-rich Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has endorsed Tinubu for another term.
Fubara also declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition and APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda.
The governor made his position known in a video posted on X, in which he addressed his supporters and said political peace had returned to Rivers State.
“We have made peace in the state, and I am supporting the Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our president and is the one that we are supporting,” Fubara said.
He also directed his supporters to back Chinda in the Rivers governorship race.
“Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting and everybody who believes in me will support,” he added.
Fubara tells supporters there is ‘nothing to collect’
Fubara also addressed supporters who might expect financial inducements before participating in the campaign.
He said there would be no money to collect and urged his supporters to support the coalition.
“And for those of you who are saying Fubara, we want to collect something before we run, there is nothing to collect, I have gone back to our family,” the governor said.
He described the political development as part of a new phase for Rivers, urging his supporters to focus on peace rather than the conflicts that had previously characterised the state’s politics.
“We need to move forward, the time of war is over, this is the time of peace and this peace is taking us to another level,” Fubara said.

Governor warns against using his name
Fubara also issued a warning to anyone who might attempt to invoke his name while pursuing a different political agenda.
He said he would not support any action capable of destabilising Rivers State.
The governor said his position was clear and urged his supporters not to claim that they were acting on his behalf if their activities contradicted his stated political direction.
“I’m not a party to anything that will bring instability to this state,” he said.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria
The developments point to an increasingly active political contest ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the ruling APC seeking to consolidate its position while opposition candidates build their respective alliances and campaign structures.
Tinubu’s campaign will now have to contend with established opposition figures including Atiku and Obi, while Fubara’s endorsement gives the President an important political declaration from Rivers State.
Atiku and Obi have yet to respond to Dada’s latest political attack in the material provided.
For Rivers, Fubara’s endorsement of Tinubu and Chinda also marks a significant political position by the governor, particularly given his insistence that supporters should follow the coalition and avoid actions that could threaten the state’s recently restored peace.
