Amaechi Challenges Tinubu Government: ‘Name One Major Project You’ve Completed’
Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to identify major infrastructure projects completed since assuming office, questioning its record on project delivery.
Amaechi made the challenge on Friday, October 2, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also accused the current administration of being more corrupt than that of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Minister of Transportation argued that Buhari’s government had completed significant infrastructure projects within its first term, while insisting that the Tinubu administration had yet to demonstrate comparable achievements.
Amaechi cites Abuja-Kaduna rail project
Questioning the Federal Government’s infrastructure record, Amaechi called on the administration to identify a completed railway project and other major developments.
He also referred to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as a project he had heard was worth ₦33 trillion, or approximately $16 billion.
“The only thing you can judge us and look at it is about governance, but in terms of being able to do projects here and there, let this government show one thing they have done,” he said.
Amaechi cited the Abuja-Kaduna railway as an example of infrastructure delivered during Buhari’s first term.
“By this time in the first tenure of Buhari’s government we have completed Abuja-Kaduna rail. Tell them to show one rail they have completed, they should name one project they have completed, just one,” he added.
His comments place infrastructure delivery at the centre of the emerging political debate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Amaechi makes corruption allegation
Beyond infrastructure, Amaechi alleged that corruption under Tinubu was more pronounced than under Buhari.
He argued that the distinction was not necessarily the absence of corruption during the previous administration, but what he described as greater efforts to conceal it.
“If you compare the two you will think there was no corruption under Buhari’s government,” he said.
He added that corruption under the current administration was, in his view, more visible.
These are Amaechi’s political allegations and have not been established as findings of an investigation or court judgment in the source material.

Hon. Rotimi Amaechi
Former minister denies corruption
Asked about his own record while serving as Transportation Minister under Buhari, Amaechi rejected suggestions that he was corrupt.
He maintained that anyone making such an allegation should provide evidence.
“I have said it several times. The other time Maupe was interviewing me and she asked, ‘are you corrupt?’ and I said no and I am waiting for the person that will prove that I am corrupt,” he said.
“I will say it again and again, I will not near corruption, I will not get close to corruption.”
Governance debate ahead of 2027
Amaechi’s remarks come as opposition parties and political figures increasingly scrutinise the Tinubu administration’s economic and infrastructure record ahead of the next presidential election.
The former Rivers governor is the ADC’s vice-presidential candidate, while Buhari’s administration remains a reference point in the debate over infrastructure delivery and governance.
The broader question raised by Amaechi is how Nigerians should assess government performance: through completed projects, public services, economic conditions, accountability, or a combination of these measures.
The Federal Government’s response to his specific challenge was not included in the source report.
