INEC Releases Final List of 18 Presidential Candidates for Nigeria’s 2027 Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has published the final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, formally putting 18 presidential tickets in the race for the presidency.
The list includes President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement, and several other candidates.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will follow on February 6, 2027.
Who Is on the Presidential List?
The INEC publication features candidates from 18 political parties.
Among the prominent names are Bola Tinubu of the APC, Atiku Abubakar of the ADC, Peter Obi of the NDC, Oluseyi Makinde of the APM, Sandy Ojang Onor of the PDP and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the PRP.
Other candidates include Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party, Sunday Okereke of the Labour Party, Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party, Peter Agada of the Young Progressive Party and Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party.
The list also contains two female presidential candidates: Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement.
Four women are listed as vice-presidential candidates: Peace Egobia of the APP, Nafisat Usaku of the DLA, Hajja Konto of the Labour Party and Patience Key of the YPP.
Atiku Is the Oldest Presidential Candidate
The published INEC list shows the presidential candidates are aged between 35 and 79, while the vice-presidential candidates range from 35 to 80.
At 79, Atiku Abubakar is the oldest presidential candidate on the list, followed by Bola Tinubu at 74.
The youngest presidential candidate is Moses Adebisi of the Democratic Labour Alliance, listed at 35.
The INEC document also records that none of the presidential or vice-presidential candidates declared a disability.
How the List Was Produced
INEC said the publication followed the conclusion of political party primaries held between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
The commission also revised the election timetable following the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.
The final list was signed by the INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

The Major Tickets
The APC ticket features incumbent President Bola Tinubu with Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Atiku Abubakar is paired with Rotimi Amaechi on the ADC ticket, while Peter Obi is listed alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso under the NDC.
Oluseyi Makinde is the APM presidential candidate, with Musa Lawal Daura as his running mate. Omoyele Sowore is listed for the AAC, while Sunday Chibuzo Okereke represents the Labour Party.
The full INEC document also lists presidential and vice-presidential tickets for the AA, ADP, APP, BP, DLA, NDP, NRM, PDP, PRP, SDP, YPP and ZLP.
With INEC’s final candidate list now published, the 2027 presidential contest has a clearly defined field of 18 candidates and their running mates.
The next major national electoral milestone will be the January 16, 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, followed by the February 6 governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls.
The publication gives voters a formal picture of the candidates seeking the presidency and marks another significant step towards Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
