Sanwo-Olu Appoints Professor Ayodeji Badejo as New LASU Vice-Chancellor
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
Badejo succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor has ended.
Born on August 4, 1962, Badejo is a Professor of Guidance and Counselling. She holds a PhD and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos.
Her appointment places her at the helm of LASU following a tenure in which the university recorded significant growth in accreditation and internally generated revenue.
Olatunji-Bello’s Five-Year Tenure
Olatunji-Bello assumed office as LASU Vice-Chancellor in September 2021.
In her final convocation address, she highlighted several achievements recorded under her administration.
She said LASU achieved a 96 per cent success rate in its first-year accreditation exercise, with 31 of 37 programmes presented securing full accreditation.
She also disclosed that the university’s internally generated revenue increased from ₦3 billion to ₦13 billion during her tenure.
Olatunji-Bello described her administration as one that transformed LASU into what she called “the most subscribed university in Nigeria” and the most digitally advanced among its peers.

Professor Badejo now takes over leadership of one of Lagos’ major public universities, with expectations around academic development, institutional management, digital transformation and continued accreditation gains.
Her tenure will also be closely watched as LASU seeks to build on the progress recorded over the previous five years.
