Presidency Fires Back After Atiku Demands Gbajabiamila’s Suspension

The Presidency has strongly defended Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar called for his suspension over allegations involving a purported ₦400 million bribery scandal and a disputed ₦27.4 billion budget allocation.

Responding to Atiku’s claims, the Presidency described Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew—the man behind the allegations—as an impostor who allegedly forged appointment letters and operated a non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Officials said Adeyemi was arrested in 2025, charged with forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence, with his trial fixed for July 27.

While Atiku insists an independent probe is necessary in the interest of transparency, the Presidency maintains the allegations lack credibility and has urged Nigerians to allow the courts to determine the case. The Arewa Youth Integrity Forum also backed Gbajabiamila, accusing Atiku of exploiting unverified claims for political purposes.
