FG Cracks Down on LPG Hoarding as Marketers Demand Action on Cooking Gas Prices

The Federal Government has launched an emergency intervention to tackle rising cooking gas prices, bringing together the EFCC, DSS, Police, regulators, and industry stakeholders to curb LPG hoarding, diversion, and market manipulation.

According to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the move aims to improve gas supply, affordability, and market stability nationwide. Authorities reported that LPG supply sufficiency has already increased from 11 to 22 days, while daily supply volumes rose significantly in June.

Meanwhile, the Association of Local Distributors of Gas (ALDG) urged government and industry players to move beyond discussions and focus on practical solutions. The group stressed that despite Nigeria’s massive 215 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves, millions of Nigerians still face limited access due to poor infrastructure and distribution challenges.

Stakeholders agreed that stronger enforcement, increased domestic production, improved storage facilities, and better distribution networks are critical to lowering prices and expanding access to clean cooking energy across the country.
