Umahi Unveils ₦30 Billion Lagos Bridge Renewal Plan
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring and modernizing Lagos’ critical infrastructure, spotlighting the rehabilitation of Eko Bridge and the construction of a new Carter Bridge.
During his inspection on June 18, 2026, Umahi revealed that emergency interventions on Eko Bridge are valued at ₦12 billion, while ongoing underwater repairs and component replacements cost an additional ₦18 billion. He emphasized engineering innovations such as T-beams and increased truck clearance standards to ensure durability and safety.

The new Carter Bridge, to be handled by CCECC with consultancy from AEC, will feature dual 105-meter spans, a rope bridge design, and modern navigation-friendly architecture. Umahi praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, noting recent approvals for the Agwanga–Jos Legacy Road and Gombe–Biu Road, as proof of his commitment to nationwide infrastructure renewal.
Umahi stressed that strict compliance with engineering standards, transparency, and stakeholder engagement will guide all projects, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.
