Nigeria’s entertainment industry is mourning the loss of legendary actor, dramatist, filmmaker, and scholar Dr. Kola Oyewo, who has died at the age of 80.
The veteran performer’s passing was announced by actor Kunle Afod, who described Oyewo as a timeless talent whose impact on Nigerian theatre and film will never be forgotten.
Born in Osun State in 1946, Oyewo began his acting journey with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group and went on to become one of the most respected figures in Yoruba theatre. He was widely celebrated for his iconic role as Odewale in The Gods Are Not to Blame and featured in classics such as Saworoide, Sango, Koseegbe, and Super Story.
