The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched the Simplified Customs Advanced Declaration System (SCADS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as part of efforts to modernise airport operations, reduce passenger delays, and improve transparency in baggage declarations.

The new digital platform allows inbound international passengers to declare items before arrival, helping to speed up Customs clearance, eliminate manual bottlenecks, and improve revenue assessment through automated data-driven processes.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs for ICT/Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, described SCADS as a major milestone in the agency’s ongoing digital transformation under Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi.

According to the NCS, the system was developed after challenges with the previous declaration platform, with officials promising a more efficient and globally aligned solution for Nigeria’s airports.

The initiative is expected to strengthen compliance, improve operational efficiency, and enhance Nigeria’s aviation and border management system.
