EFCC Secures Final Forfeiture of Private Jet Linked to $114m Maiduguri Power Project Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has obtained a final forfeiture order for a Hawker 800XP private jet linked to alleged fraud, corruption, and money laundering in the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP).

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ruled that Valiente Jet Limited, owned by Abdulsalam Mustapha Kachallah, failed to prove the lawful origin of funds used to purchase the aircraft. The court noted that the jet was acquired through a disguised transaction involving a Bureau De Change operator, who denied knowledge of the deal.

Investigations revealed that Kachallah, then Chairman of the Borno State Rural Electrification Board, exploited his position to broker illicit contracts with China Machinery Engineering Company (CMEC) under the MEPP, valued at over $114 million and ₦23 billion. Funds were allegedly laundered through Afuwa Integrated Services Limited and transferred abroad to buy the aircraft.

The ruling marks a major victory for the EFCC in its ongoing crackdown on high‑profile financial crimes and reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to transparency in public projects.
