Court Adjourns Suit Challenging Jonathan’s 2027 Presidential Eligibility
The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed proceedings in the case challenging former President Goodluck Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election after the plaintiff and counsel failed to appear in court.
Justice Peter Lifu adjourned the matter to May 15, 2026, warning that punitive costs could be imposed if the plaintiff fails to attend again. During proceedings, Jonathan’s lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), urged the court to strike out the suit, arguing that the case lacked diligent prosecution and key parties, including INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federation, had not been properly served.

The judge, however, granted the plaintiff another opportunity and ordered that all parties be served before the next hearing. The case continues to attract national attention as political discussions around the 2027 elections intensify.
