INEC Restores David Mark as ADC Chairman After Supreme Court Twist

Nigeria’s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission, has reinstated David Mark as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major shift in the party’s ongoing leadership battle.

The updated INEC database also confirms Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, alongside other key officials restored to the National Working Committee. This move follows a decisive ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which nullified an earlier directive from the Court of Appeal that had led to their removal.

The apex court ruled that maintaining the previous “status quo” order was no longer legally valid, clearing the way for INEC to recognize the Mark-led leadership—at least for now.

While the development has been celebrated by Mark’s faction as a victory for due process and party stability, the leadership dispute is far from over. A substantive case challenging the legitimacy of the ADC structure is still pending before the Federal High Court.
