INEC Raises Alarm Over Fake đť•Ź Account as Voter Revalidation Is Postponed
The Independent National Electoral Commission has debunked viral claims linking its chairman, Joash Amupitan, to a partisan 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, describing the reports as a “malicious and coordinated misinformation campaign.”
According to INEC, the circulating post—allegedly supporting the All Progressives Congress—is completely fabricated, stressing that Amupitan does not own or operate any personal social media account. The commission warned that impersonators are exploiting fake profiles to mislead the public and damage its credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.
INEC confirmed it is working with security agencies to track those responsible, with legal action expected under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act.

Meanwhile, the commission also announced the postponement of the nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections, citing strategic administrative decisions.
