ADC Demands INEC Chairman’s Resignation, APC Fires Back: “A Party That Cannot Fix Itself Cannot Fix Nigeria”
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate resignation or sack of INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, accusing the electoral body of partisanship and orchestrating a plot to undermine Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on April 2, 2026, ADC National Chairman David Mark declared that the party had lost all confidence in INEC, alleging the commission acted unlawfully by withdrawing recognition of the ADC’s leadership despite a valid National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on July 29, 2025.

Mark accused the Bola Tinubu administration of using INEC to weaken opposition parties, warning of a dangerous path toward a one-party state amid rising insecurity and economic hardship.
“The only conclusion Nigerians can draw is that the electoral umpire has taken sides and can no longer be trusted,” Mark said.
APC Responds: “Self-Inflicted Crisis”
But the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) swiftly rejected the allegations, insisting the ADC’s predicament is entirely self-inflicted.
In a statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the ADC as “an assembly of Nigeria’s most confused and desperate politicians” and a “peddler of rabid conspiracy theories.”

Morka defended INEC’s decision to derecognize the David Mark-led faction, stating it acted in compliance with court rulings and democratic practice.
“INEC’s decision to de-recognise the factional David Mark-led executives in compliance with the judgment of the court is valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with electoral policy,” Morka said.
He added: “A party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria. The ADC has absolutely nothing to offer more than its senseless attacks against the APC.”
The ADC, however, vowed to proceed with its national convention regardless of INEC’s stance, calling on Nigerians and the international community to intervene.
