The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled a revised timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, aligning the electoral calendar with the newly enacted Electoral Act 2026 signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

  • Presidential & National Assembly Elections: January 16, 2027

  • Governorship & State Houses of Assembly Elections: February 6, 2027

  • Osun Governorship Election: August 15, 2026 (rescheduled)

INEC stated that the updated schedule ensures full compliance with the new legal framework and the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

📌 Political Parties Timeline

  • Party Primaries: April 23 – May 30, 2026

  • Presidential/NASS Campaigns Begin: August 19, 2026

  • Governorship/State Assembly Campaigns Begin: September 9, 2026

  • Campaigns must end 24 hours before election day, as required by law.
