President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given a clear directive to newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu: tackle banditry, terrorism, and rebuild public confidence in Nigeria’s security system.

Speaking during Disu’s decoration ceremony in Abuja, Tinubu described the appointment as coming at a “critical moment,” urging the new police chief to drive innovation, professionalism, and accountability in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Disu, who officially assumed office following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, pledged to lead with integrity, modern policing reforms, and improved officer welfare. “Professionalism, modernism, and accountability will define my tenure,” he said.

The leadership transition has also sparked debate, with activist Omoyele Sowore claiming Egbetokun’s exit validates long-standing concerns about the legality of his tenure.
