2027: Peter Obi Rallies Support as Umahi Urges Southeast to Back Tinubu

Boom RadioNG | February 15, 2026

Nigeria’s 2027 political landscape is already taking shape as Peter Obi calls for nationwide unity to “rescue” the country from poor governance, while Works Minister Dave Umahi urges the Southeast to support President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at an Obidient conference linked to the African Democratic Congress, Obi framed the 2027 election as a generational mission, promising reforms in electoral transparency, education, healthcare and debt management. He said his political movement is about national recovery, not personal ambition, and vowed to contest regardless of obstacles.

In contrast, Umahi argued that the Southeast should adopt a strategic approach and align with the current administration, insisting it is not yet the region’s turn to produce a president. He cited ongoing federal infrastructure projects as evidence of increased attention to the zone and called for stronger political alliances ahead of 2027.

The diverging views highlight early power alignments and intensifying debate over leadership, regional strategy and governance ahead of Nigeria’s next presidential election cycle.
