Forgery Scandal: Fake Passport Evidence Triggers Criminal Charges Against Senior Nigerian Lawyer
A major legal controversy has erupted after Nigerian authorities confirmed that a passport used as evidence in a London property dispute involving prominent lawyer Mike Ozekhome was fake. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) revealed the passport submitted to support ownership of a North London property was never officially issued and had been reported stolen.
Despite the document being accepted by a UK tribunal due to lack of contrary proof at the time, new findings prompted Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the ICPC, to file criminal charges. The senior advocate now faces allegations of using forged documents and unlawfully acquiring a £500,000 London property linked to a complex ownership dispute dating back to 1993.
