Food Prices Ease Slightly in Nigeria as Rice, Beans, Garri Get Cheaper — NBS

Nigeria’s food inflation showed a mild slowdown in November 2025 as prices of key staples—rice, beans, garri, tomatoes and onions—recorded marginal declines, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS Selected Food Prices Watch report revealed that the average price of local rice dropped year-on-year to ₦1,861.95, while brown beans saw a sharp decline of over 43%. White garri, tomatoes and onions also posted notable reductions, offering modest relief to households despite persistently high food costs nationwide.

However, palm oil bucked the trend, recording a slight year-on-year increase. Analysts say the easing prices may reflect recent government measures aimed at curbing food inflation.
