EFCC Summons Former Attorney General Malami for Questioning Amid Ongoing Investigation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally summoned Nigeria’s former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, signaling a new phase in the agency’s widening investigations into high-level activities under the previous administration.
According to an invitation letter dated November 24, the anti-graft commission requested Malami’s presence for an interview scheduled for Friday, November 28, at its headquarters in the Institution and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.
The letter—signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu on behalf of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede—noted that the commission is probing a case requiring “certain information” from the former minister.

The invitation, issued under Section 38(1) and (2) of the EFCC Establishment Act 2024, emphasized the agency’s legal mandate to seek clarity from individuals linked to ongoing investigations.
“In view of the above, you are requested to kindly attend an interview with the undersigned through the Head, Special Duty Committee-3,” the letter stated.
“Your cooperation in this regard is highly solicited.”
Notably, the EFCC did not specify the exact case or allegations for which Malami is being invited, heightening public curiosity and sparking renewed debate about accountability in Nigeria’s justice sector.

Malami Confirms: “I Will Honour the Invitation”
Responding shortly after the letter surfaced, Malami confirmed he had received the summon and pledged full cooperation.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said in a statement obtained by Channels Television.
He emphasized that transparency has remained a core principle throughout his time in public service.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” Malami added, noting that he intends to keep the Nigerian public informed as events unfold.
