The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging the prosecution of Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over a shocking breach of aviation regulations at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Unlawful Blockade of Aircraft Sparks National Outrage
According to NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu, the veteran musician’s attempt to block a moving ValueJet aircraft on Tuesday poses a serious violation of Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs 2023). In a formal letter to the AGF and IGP, the NCAA demanded a comprehensive criminal investigation and the swift commencement of legal action against the musician for his disruptive behavior.
In response, the NCAA has placed K1 De Ultimate on a no-fly list for six months, warning that any airline—domestic or international—that flies him risks losing its operating license.
Minister Keyamo Reacts: “This Was a Hostage Situation”
Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, condemned the incident, labeling the singer’s actions “unacceptable and reprehensible.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Keyamo revealed that K1 deliberately blocked the aircraft’s path, comparing the act to a hostage situation.
“The issue of whether he was carrying alcohol or water is irrelevant,” Keyamo stated. “What matters is that he obstructed the safe movement of an aircraft—a critical breach of aviation safety.”
Root of the Incident: Alcohol Dispute and Escalation
Reports indicate the altercation began when K1 was prevented from boarding the Lagos-bound flight after being found with a flask containing an alcoholic substance, which he allegedly spilled on an aviation worker during a fit of rage.
The incident was captured in now-viral video footage and has triggered massive online debates regarding VIP privilege and aviation safety.

NCAA Cracks Down: Pilots Suspended, Passenger Sanctioned
Earlier this week, the NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots involved in the incident for “unsafe conduct.” However, Minister Keyamo insisted on equal accountability: “The crew has been sanctioned, and now the unruly passenger must face consequences too.”

While K1 De Ultimate remains a revered cultural figure, especially in Nigeria’s Southwest and among the Yoruba community, his celebrity status is now at odds with aviation law.
