Rivers State Governor Dismisses Political Conspiracy, Urges Public to Ignore Misinformation
Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly dismissed allegations made by Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service, labeling them as false and politically motivated.
Dr. Nwaeke, during a press briefing on March 28, 2025, claimed that Fubara had engaged in secret political meetings and supported acts of sabotage against national assets. However, in a series of tweets, Fubara firmly denied the accusations, urging the public to ignore what he described as an orchestrated smear campaign.

Taking to Twitter in the early hours of March 29, 2025, Fubara stated that he would have ordinarily ignored the allegations but felt compelled to address them due to their potential to mislead the public and stir unrest in Rivers State.
1. No Secret Meetings with Bala Mohammed
One of Nwaeke’s claims was that Fubara had been secretly supporting Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s 2027 presidential ambition and holding clandestine meetings with militants. Fubara dismissed this assertion as absurd, stating:
“It is laughable that Dr. Nwaeke would be part of any high-level political meeting as Head of Service, much more sitting in my alleged night meetings with Bala Mohammed and militants like he claimed. Howbeit, none of such meetings ever held.”
Fubara emphasized that Mohammed’s visits to Rivers State were public knowledge in his capacity as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, with nothing secretive about them.
2. No Meetings with Militants or Criminal Groups
Dr. Nwaeke also accused Fubara of supporting attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in Rivers State. Fubara strongly refuted this, stating that he has always been an advocate for peace and stability, even in the face of political tensions.

“It is ludicrous for Dr. Nwaeke to claim that he was aware of my meetings to encourage attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the State, as there was no time I held any meeting with militants or any criminal group to destabilize the State.”
He further noted that his administration has continuously worked towards maintaining peace and security in Rivers, rather than instigating violence.
3. “Nwaeke Has Been Compromised”
Fubara did not hold back in accusing Nwaeke of acting under external influence, suggesting that he may have been paid or coerced into making these claims.
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me.”
Call for Public to Disregard Misinformation
In his final remarks, Fubara urged Nigerians and Rivers State citizens to dismiss the allegations, emphasizing that they are part of a desperate political plot to undermine him and disrupt ongoing peace efforts initiated by President Bola Tinubu.
“I call on all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nwaeke as they are mere desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration, and undermine the peace process by Mr. President.”
