University of Lagos Hosts Press Briefing for #LAGOS2024 FASU Games

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) recently held a press briefing as part of the preparations for the 11th edition of the Federation of Africa University Games (FASU Games), commonly known as #LAGOS2024. This year’s event will be jointly hosted by UNILAG, Akoka, and Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.

The briefing served as an update for the media on various aspects of the tournament, including event locations, athlete readiness, facilities, and logistical arrangements. The event was graced by key members of the UNILAG management, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, the three Deputy Vice-Chancellors, and the acting Registrar, among others.

In her remarks, Professor Ogunsola provided an overview of the tournament, highlighting that the opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the University of Lagos, Akoka. The closing ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Lagos State University, Ojo. The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the event would not only focus on the games but will also feature a Scientific Conference for sports academics to share and develop new knowledge. Additionally, there will be a Vice-Chancellors’ Meeting and the FISU/FASU Strategic Dialogue, which are set to drive sports agenda across African universities.

The 11th edition of the FASU Games, scheduled from Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 29, 2024, will bring together male and female athletes from across Africa to compete in 17 sports, including Athletics, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, Cricket, Hockey, Chess, Scrabble, and Boxing (as a demonstration sport).

With the theme “Unite, Compete and Excel,” #LAGOS2024 promises to be a landmark event in African university sports.
