Edo State Gears Up to Host South South Rugby League and NRFF 2024 AGM
Edo State is set to host the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation’s (NRFF) 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the South South Rugby League in Benin City, reaffirming its dedication to the sport’s growth in Nigeria.
During a recent visit to Benin City, NRFF President Dr. Ademola Are expressed gratitude for the Edo State Rugby Association’s (ESRA) ongoing efforts to promote rugby. “We appreciate the significant strides you’ve made in Edo State to develop rugby. Your commitment is crucial, and we are thankful for your willingness to host the AGM and the South South Rugby League,” Dr. Are stated.
ESRA Chairman, Comrade Sunny Osayande, emphasized the association’s enthusiasm for hosting the AGM, which will gather rugby stakeholders from across Nigeria from December 3rd to 5th, 2024. “We are eager to host this significant event and support the continued growth of rugby in Nigeria,” Osayande affirmed.

Edo State Gears Up to Host South South Rugby League and NRFF 2024 AGM
The South South Rugby League, sponsored by ESRA Vice Chairman Mr. Asuen Marcel, will see teams from Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Edo competing for the zonal title and a place in the national Super Six finals. Matches are scheduled from October 8th to 9th, with teams arriving on October 7th and departing on October 10th.
This regional league is part of a nationwide competition across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones—South West, South South, South East, North Central, North East, and North West. Winners from each region will advance to the national finals.
