President Tinubu chairs first state of council meeting

President Bola Tinubu has today presided over the first Council of state meeting of his administration.

The meeting which was held at the Council Chamber of the State House Abuja with former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari in attendance in person and former Heads of State, Generals Gowon Yakubu, and Abdulsalami Abubakar joining virtually.

Also present at the meeting were the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume,  the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike and several governors in person and virtually.

Former chief justices Alfa Belgore and Mahmud Muhammed, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy Wale Edun and Minister of Works, David Umahi, amongst others were also in attendance.

This is the first National Council of State meeting since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

The National Council of State is an important organ of the government that advises the executive arm of government on policymaking which consists of the President as the chairman of the council; the Vice President as the deputy chairman; all former presidents and Heads of State, serving and all former Chief Justices of Nigeria; the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the 36 governors of the federation, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
