Biden Grants Secret Service Protection to RFK Jr. After Trump Assassination Attempt

Boom RadioNG | July 15, 2024

In a decisive move, President Joe Biden has directed the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. This order comes in the wake of an attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump, as confirmed by Homeland Security Secretary on Monday.

Heightened Security Concerns

RFK Jr. has garnered significant attention, attracting large crowds at his campaign events. His campaign team has persistently requested Secret Service protection, citing multiple security incidents. These include an October incident where a man trespassed twice in one day at Kennedy’s Los Angeles residence, and a September event where an armed individual impersonating a federal officer was apprehended outside a Kennedy campaign rally.

The Kennedy family has a tragic history with political violence. RFK Jr.’s uncle, President John F. Kennedy, and his father, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, were both assassinated. This legacy underscores the urgency and importance of ensuring his safety during the presidential campaign. Republican Candidate Donald Trump had also said it was “imperative” for him to receive it “given the history of the Kennedy Family”.

In response to the enhanced security measures, Kennedy expressed his gratitude to President Biden. “Thank you, President Biden, for extending me Secret Service protection,” he said in a statement. He also praised his private security firm, Gavin de Becker & Associates, for their efforts in keeping him safe over the past 15 months of his campaign.
