Germany Legalizes Possession of Small Amounts of Cannabis: Celebratory “Smoke-In” Held Across the Country
Germany celebrates as new cannabis laws take effect, permitting possession of up to 25 grams and personal cultivation. The German Cannabis Association hosted events across cities like Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg.
From July 1, adults can join cannabis clubs, allowing daily purchases of 25 grams. Concerns persist over potential legal burdens, with opposition from some federal states and the Christian Democrats.

Despite this, Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition pushed the law through. However, leading garden stores won’t sell cannabis plants, and the German Medical Association voices concerns about youth impact.
