3rd Mainland Bridge Rehabilitation Progress: Works Minister Optimistic Amidst Challenges

The successful completion of the first phase of the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation signifies progress on the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure agenda. Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, highlighted the ongoing repairs and upcoming work on the Eko and Carter Bridges during his inspection visit.

While aesthetics like markings and solar lights enhance the Oworonshoki end, underwater repairs remain the most critical challenge. The Minister expressed confidence in tackling these issues and announced the mobilization of N7 billion for the Carter Bridge rehabilitation.

Engineer O.I. Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos state, underscored the extensive underwater damage to the bridges and showcased other federal projects in the region, including sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

In parallel, Senator Barinada Mpigi and Rt Hon. Akin Alabi urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on the nation’s infrastructure, recognizing the scale of challenges and the need for innovative solutions beyond annual appropriations. They assured support from the National Assembly to fund these critical projects.
