Ogun State Commences Demolition of Illegal Structures at Kara Market, Along Lagos-Ibadan Highway

The Ogun State Government initiated the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday. Led by Farouq Akintunde, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Environment, the operation aims to clear the corridor of disfiguring structures that have become potential hideouts for criminals.

The decision to remove these illegal structures aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing security and promoting economic growth in the state. Farouq Akintunde emphasized the significance of creating an environment conducive to attracting serious investors, stating, “No serious investor will come here and partner with us with all these kinds of shanties and garbage.”

During the operation, our correspondent noted the unsightly presence of feces and dirt on the road median and beneath the Kara Bridge. While there was mild opposition from some protesters armed with sticks, the substantial security presence, including police officers and operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps, effectively prevented any potential outbreak of violence.

This proactive measure underscores Ogun State’s commitment to maintaining a clean and secure environment for residents and potential investors.
