“First Apapa Port to Lagos-Ibadan Railway Container Freight Train Embarks on Historic Journey”
The inaugural container freight train of the Lagos-Ibadan railway, a remarkable project undertaken by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), has commenced its journey from Apapa Port in Lagos. CCECC announced this significant development via their official website, revealing that the train is transporting a fleet of 40-foot containers destined for Ibadan.
According to the statement, ‘This maiden voyage originated at Apapa Port and seamlessly carried 30 40-foot containers, reaching the Ibadan station in an impressive two-and-a-half hours. This historic moment marks the first container freight train operation, following the successful launch of the cement freight train service on July 4th.’

The Nigerian Railway Corporation’s strategic plan includes the operation of one pair of container trains daily, with a gradual increase in the number of train services to meet rising demands. This move aims to enhance the efficiency of the railway transportation system and alleviate congestion at the Lagos Port.”
