President Muhammadu Buhari has acknowledged the urgent need for an upward review of salaries of civil servants across the country due to the constant increase in the inflation rate and the depleting power of the naira.
He disclosed this while addressing civil servants who came visiting at the state house today. He also reminded them that the government is also overwhelmed by constraints such as shrinking revenue and crude oil theft, which is a major contributor to the nation’s revenue base.
In his address, the President cautioned that the civil service is not a dumping ground for job seekers but an ecosystem that must attract the best and brightest in order to solve the nations socio- economic problems.
In the same vein, the President has asked that the Oransanye white paper report be subjected to an immediate review and the harmonized paper submitted by the Secretary to the Government of the federation, the outcome of which will lead to fundamental changes in the structure of civil service going forward.
