President Muhammadu Buhari sends name of acting CJN to the senate for confirmation

President Muhammadu Buhari has today sent the name of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, to the Senate for confirmation of his appointment.
This request was contained in a letter that was read on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary session at the National Assembly in Abuja by the Senate President.
According to the president’s letter, he is asking the lawmakers in the upper chamber to speedily confirm the appointment.
Similarly, the President forwarded the names of five nominees for confirmation of appointment as non-executive directors of the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the red chamber.
In addition, another list of 19 nominees for confirmation as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was also sent.
Five of the REC nominees are for renewal of appointments while 14 are for fresh appointments.
The renewal nominees for confirmation are Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa); Obo Effanga (Cross River); Umar Ibrahim (Taraba); Agboke Olaleke (Ogun); and Samuel Egwu (Kogi).
For the fresh appointments, the nominees are Onyeka Ugochi (Imo); Muhammad Bashir (Sokoto); Prof. Ayobami Salami, (Oyo); Zango Abdu (Katsina); Queen Agwu (Ebonyi); and Agundu Tersoo (Benue); Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta); Prof. Yahaya Ibrahim, (Kaduna); Nura Ali (Kano); Agu Uchenna (Enugu); Ahmed Garki (FCT); Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi); Prof. Uzochukwu Chijioke (Anambra); and Mohammed Nura (Yobe).
