Zamfara House Of Assembly Set To Impeach Deputy Governor A 2nd Time
The Zamfara State House of Assembly has rekindled their previous attempt at impeaching the state’s deputy governor, Mahdi Aliyu.
The deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Musa Bawa, submitted a document requesting the impeachment of the deputy governor at today’s plenary moving a motion for the consideration of the request.
The speaker, Rt. Hon Magarya, acknowledged receipt of the document.
The deputy governor’s woes supposedly began when fell out of favor with Governor Bello Matawalle after he declined joining the All Progressive Congress, APC with the governor last year.
They had both gotten their offices on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP) after the Supreme Court disqualified candidates of the APC who had been declared winners in the 2019 elections.
The lawmakers had earlier threatened to impeach Mr Aliyu for allegedly holding a political rally amidst killings in the state which he denied any wrongdoing
The Federal High Court, Abuja, later in July last year restrained the lawmakers and the Chief Judge of the state from taking steps to impeach the deputy governor. The judge also stopped the House from taking actions against its other members who are still in the PDP.
