Spectators Prohibited At The Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

BoomRadioNG | January 18, 2022

China has announced that members of the general public will not be allowed to buy tickets to the Beijing Winter Olympics slated for February next month.

The organizers further announced that tickets will be restricted with only “selected” spectators permitted at the event because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This announcement was made on the organizing committee’s website. In its statement, the committee said its measures were intended to “create a pleasant environment for the holding of the Games.”

This decision was made after Beijing reported its first locally transmitted case of the Omicron variant of covid-19 over the weekend. The carrier is reportedly a 26-year-old woman who visited high-end shops in Beijing and this development is challenging China’s “zero-COVID” strategy less than three weeks from the start of the Olympic Games.
