Jigawa State Approves Death Penalty For Child Rapists
Jigawa state government has on Wednesday, 29th December, 2021 approved the death penalty for child rapists in the state which is the child protection law.
The Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney General of the state, Dr Musa Adamu disclosed this at a press briefing that those convicted of raping children below the age of 10, will be sentenced to death with no option.

The crime data in the state showed that rape cases were the highest with 90 compared to others of 27 culpable homicides; sodomy with 31; kidnapping and abduction have a total number of 18 cases; incest two; two 2 acts of gross indecency; 20 armed robberies while road traffic offences had two cases.
The governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar had earlier in the year signed the Violence Against Prohibition Bill which prescribed the death penalty for rapists but with the option of life imprisonment.
