Squid Game Creator Confirms Second Season Of Netflix Series

BoomRadioNG | November 10, 2021

Squid Game creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that the Netflix TV series would be back for a second season.

Dong-hyuk revealed this in an interview at an event for the series also hinting at a major plot twist for the second season

Highlighting the series’ global success, the director noted that this had left the team no other choice than to create a second season, even though most South Korean series end at just a season.

He said “I almost feel like you leave us no choice, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season.”

He also revealed that planning for the second season was already in the works. “It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back, and he’ll do something for the world.”

Less than a month after its September debut, the series recorded over 111million Netflix views becoming Netflix’s most popular series at launch, a position which Bridgeton had previously held.

Squid Game also stood firm at No.1 on Netflix’s Top 10 lists in 94 countries around the world.

The series is also the platform’s first-ever Korean series to reach No. 1 in the United States.
