Gov Sanwo-olu of Lagos Signs Law That Prohibits Media Parade of Suspected Criminals

The Lagos state governor, Babjide Olusola Sanwo-olu has signed the Administration of Criminal Justice (Amendment) Law of Lagos State, 2021, which prohibits media parade of suspects and provides for compensation to victims of crime among others. The amended law also provides for the establishment of a Crime Data Register and the Criminal Justice Sector Reform Committee to monitor the implementation of this law

This disclosure was made by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN to state house correspondents on Tuesday.

The law was first passed in Lagos State in 2007 and amended in 2011 to ensure that the fundamental rights of suspects and persons that come into contact with the justice system as enshrined in the constitution were protected.
