NIGERIA’s FUNKE OSHONAIKE INDUCTED INTO EXCLUSIVE “OLYMPIC CLUB 7”
46 year Nigerian Table Tennis legend Funke Oshonaike has today been inducted into the Exclusive Olympic Club 7. The veteran table tennis player has joined an exclusive group of Olympians who have competed at 7 Olympic games.
Oshonaike who is ranked 175 in the world crashed out in the first round of the women’s singles event at the Tokyo Olympic games after losing to 449th ranked American table tennis players, Juan Liu in five sets. The Nigerian whose first appearance at the Olympic stage was at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games has now become the first woman in the world of table tennis to achieve this feat.

The official induction ceremony took place in Tokyo under the supervision of the President of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Thomas Weikert. Also in attendance were Olympic club 7 inductees, Segun Toriola of Nigeria, Jörgen Persson of Sweden, Zoran Primorac of Croatia and the former Yugoslavia, and Jean-Michel Saive of Belgium.
