The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will go ahead as planned despite the surge in COVID-19 cases, According to the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach.

The German Former Olympic fencer affirmed that canceling the multi-sport event is not an option, and the decision to go ahead with hosting and organization of the event as planned is also in the interest of the athletes. “We, at the IOC, will never abandon the athletes, and with the cancellation, we would have lost a whole generation of athletes.” He added.
