Allow University security personnel bear arms – Mohammed Ibrahim SSANU President
With the increasing spate of kidnapping and killings of students in higher institutions across the country, the President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities -SSANU Mohammed Ibrahim has asked the federal government to allow the security personnel at universities to bear arms.
Ibrahim while making the call on Channels television program sunrise Daily today, added that since most of the personnel of the security units in the universities are retirees of either the army or the police thus giving them the license to bear arms would reduce the vulnerability of students and staff on campuses.
He however said that the universities would run dry soon as no parents want to allow their children get abducted or be asked to pay ransom when abducted.
The SSANU President also advice the federal government to deploy graduates into security agencies immediately after their service year, noting that they are willing to do the job.
