Would you pay 686,160,000.00 Million Naira ($1.8 million) for a pair of “used” Nike Air Yeezy 1s?

A pair of black high top Yeezys worn by American rapper and designer Kanye West during the 2008 Grammy Awards as he performed “Hey Mama” and “Stronger.”  sold for $1.8 million, triple the previous record for sneakers, Sotheby’s “one of the world’s largest brokers of fine and decorative art, jewelry, real estate, and collectibles” said today.

The record for the most expensive pair of sneakers was formerly held by a pair of Nike Air Jordan 1s which sold for $615,000 (N234,622,500.00) in August 2020 at an auction by Christie’s. The Yeezys were acquired by RARES, a sneaker investment marketplace that lets users to invest in rare pairs of athletic shoes.

Air Yeezy 1s are valued between $2,000 (N776000.00) and $4,000 (N1577470.27) depending on the type or model. The black high top Yeezys, were actually part of a collaboration between Nike and Kanye West, the shoes eventually hit the market in April 2009.
