Cancer: Early Detection Can Prevent Death – Atinuke Lawal
Convener of the Cancer Awareness Campaign LET’S KILL IT! Mrs Atinuke Lawal as once again reiterated it that Early Detection through can prevent most of the deaths caused by cancer. Speaking with Boom Radio NG’s at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, venue of the Atinuke Cancer Foundation Annual Cancer awareness program Tagged LET’S KILL IT!.
LET’S KILL IT! Is a campaign organised and packaged by of the Atinuke Cancer Foundation, and supported by The Lagos State First Lady Her Excellency Dr Mrs Ibijoke Sanwoolu, Nigeria’s Foremost sports betting company Bet9ja, De-United Foods Industries Limited, Clina-lancet Laboratories, Vedic Lifecare, your very own Boom Radio NG, Fan Milk Nigeria and so many more top Nigerian Brands.

Lawal a Cancer survivor herself revealed that she decided to contribute her own quota towards fighting the scourge of Cancer,. She said that the plan is to create awareness so that through early detection of the killer disease that has assumed the dimension of a scourge in Nigeria more lives can be saved.
Atinuke who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and having gone through two years of the ordeal and other challenges but with a strong determination to overcome the killer disease has become a survivor who has decided to spend her time and resources to share her experience during and after the treatment hence the formation of Atinuke Cancer Foundation to help in awareness creation and capacity building for stakeholders.

In what has now become an annual ritual the Atinuke Cancer foundation again on Saturday 29th of February 2020 organised an Advocacy Walk, free Health-checks, an aerobics session and a Novelty football match to commemorate the National Cancer Prevention Month and the World Cancer Day at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Suru Lere Lagos.
Dr. Mrs, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu wife of the lagos State governor in her address at this year’s event to mark the National Cancer Prevention Month and the World Cancer Day themed: “I AM and I WILL” made it known that the event is to not only to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer but also an opportunity to rally the international community to end the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer.
The wife of the Lagos State governor while describing cancer as a killer and a terminator of precious Lives made it known that cancer is responsible for 27, 000 deaths in Nigeria annually with an estimated annual 102,000 new cases of cancer annually.

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu however noted sadly that the incidences of Cancer which is attaining an alarming upward trend is as a result of late presentation, low access to treatment and poor treatment outcomes which has led to about 80-90% of cases of advanced stages of cancer before getting to the hospital for treatment.
While commending the Atinuke Cancer Foundation for taking the bold step to create awareness on the deadly disease also disclosed that the government in Lagos State led by her husband His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu will spare no effort in combating cancer in the state hence the various initiatives to tackle cancer.

The 5kilometre Advocacy Walk attracted several participants among whom are celebrity artistes Like ARA the pioneer female talking drummer, Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa, “You is the one” and “Madam” crooner AZADUS. OAP and Instagram Star Iya Mufu to name a few, The Celebrities also played in the fun filled Novelty football match. The Atinuke Cancer Foundation did not leave any stone unturned as all present had lots to eat and drink, all participants were also given free T-shirts and gifts.
