Lagos Commences Demolition of Defective Buildings
The Lagos state government has started manual demolition of buildings marked to be torn-down on Freeman Street, in the Lagos Island area of the state.
Secretary of Lagos State Building Control Agency, Tayo Fakolujo, said over 80 buildings have been marked for demolition on Lagos Island.
This is coming against the back drop of the three storey building that collapsed on Wednesday the 13th of March Killing 20 people most of them pupils of a private school situated in the building.
It is believed some residents of the affected building are opposing the “mass demolition” of these defective building, but the state government however appears resolute it its resolve to bring down the buildings that have failed the “integrity test”.
