Former CJN Pleads Not Guilty to Six-Count Charge

The suspended Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen has pleaded not guilty to all six count charge bothering on false assets declaration levelled against him by the code of Conduct bureau.


Justice Onnoghen appeared for the first time in court today since the commencement of his trial. After pleading not guilty to all charges, Defence Counsel, Chris Uche pleaded with the Tribunal to grant the defendant bail on self recognition and also for an adjournment.

In his ruling, Justice Umar granted the bail application on the condition that the defendant makes himself available in court throughout the trial and adjourned the case to March 11, 2018.

Speaking with Newsmen after the session, defence counsel, Uche and prosecution counsel, Musa Ibrahim both agreed it was a sad day for the judiciary.
